Free Mezuzah Initiative

Chabad at UCF offers a free mezuzah to any student who needs one for their dorm room or apartment, thanks to the generosity of the CKL Foundation.

What is a mezuzah?

A mezuzah on the doorpost marks a home as Jewish and reminds us of our connection to G‑d and our heritage. The mezuzah is actually the parchment scroll inside the case, on which the Shema is handwritten by an expert scribe.

It's also a symbol of G‑d's watchful care. The name of G‑d on the back of the parchment, Sha-dai, is an acronym for "Guardian of the doorways of Israel."

The fine print: this offer is for college students only, while supplies last. Please treat the mezuzah with appropriate respect.

Own your own pair

Tefillin Bank

The Tefillin Bank subsidizes 50% of the cost of tefillin, up to $250, for students committed to putting on tefillin regularly (daily or weekly) who can't afford a pair on their own. For example, on a $400 pair, Chabad on Campus will cover $200.

How it works

  1. Submit the application.
  2. The Tefillin Bank administrator reviews applications based on availability and commitment to the mitzvah.
  3. Once approved, the Chabad on Campus International Foundation sends you the available tefillin options.
  4. Make your selection and we place the order with the sofer (scribe), who is happy to talk through the different qualities available.
  5. Your tefillin are mailed to the Chabad House, and the Rabbi will let you know when they arrive.

Grants are limited and awarded first-come, first-served.
